Preview: Border Bash - Laney Travels to Strom Thurmond
By Tim Crane
web posted August 26, 2010
SPORTS – Strom Thurmond kicked off their 50th season
of football in style as they pitched a shutout over one of the state’s
most powerful offense in Williston. If expectations were high
before the first game, they’ve climbed even higher now. But,
keeping things in perspective and the team focused is what the Strom
Thurmond coaching staff has been doing this week.
A tradition as rich as Rebel football is Johnston’s Oldies KSX 92.7fm
coverage of Thurmond’s Friday night action. They have been
covering Strom Thurmond football since the beginning and one would be
hard pressed to find another station covering any team, with the same
tenure or excellence in broadcasting.
Now with internet technology; Steve Smith, Andy Livingston and Billy
Keesley are providing Strom Thurmond fans play by play action around
the globe.
This will be Laney’s season opener after a 5-5 season in 2009.
The Wildcats will be looking to continue their two game win streak over
the Rebels. Last season Laney averaged 19 points per game on
offense and allowed 21 points per game on defense. 2009 was the first
season Laney hasn’t finished above .500 since
1999.
