Edgefield Xtreme posts first victory of CSRA Fall League
By John Brown
web posted September 17, 2011
SPORTS – Behind a ''no hit'' pitching
performance from Will Mottel, Hunter Cadiere and Michael Feagin, the
Edgefield Xtreme posted their first victory of the young CSRA Fall
League season with a 7-3 win over the Aiken Indians. Mottel would get
the start and face 9 batters over 2 innings of work, striking out 5 and
walking 2.
In the 3rd inning, Hunter Cadiere would come on in relief of Mottel and
face 6 batters, striking out 5 in two innings of work. In the 5th
inning, Michael Feagin would come on to earn his first save of the
season, facing 5 batters, striking out 3 and walking 2.
On the offensive side of the ball, Reid Gossett and Jared Bass would
score 2 runs each, while Garrett Hammond and Mills Murphy would each
score one run. At the plate, Edgefield would get base hits from
Jared Bass, Hunter Cadiere, Ty Johnson, Josh Wates and Mills Murphy.
But it was the pitching that would shine as Aiken sent 22 batters to
the plate only to see 13 strikeout.
After the game Xtreme Manager John Brown Jr. talked about his young
team. "We're playing in the 12 year old division here in Aiken with a
team full of 10 and 11 year olds. I was super impressed with our
pitching tonight but we need to see improvement in our hitting game and
on the defensive side of the ball." Edgefield would commit only one
fielding error on the night but make two throwing errors that would
eventually allow Aiken to score 3 runs.
The Edgefield Xtreme is a fall baseball team made up of 10, 11 and 12
year olds from Edgefield County. Members of the team include Reid
Gossett, Jared Bass, Will Mottel, Hunter Cadiere, Ty Johnson, Michael
Feagin, Garrett Hammond, Whit Guess, Josh Wates, Josh Knight, William
Prince, Stetson Mayson, Mills Murphy and Jikeal Brown. Coaches include
John Brown Jr., Jon Prince, Richard Wates and Tuckie Cardiere. For more
