Lady Rebs Golf Team takes 3rd in State Tournament

By Nick Lorimer
web posted October 30, 2009
SPORTS – The Lady Rebel Golf Team from Strom Thurmond High School finished 3rd  at the 3A State Tournament that was played in Conway at Quail Creek Golf  Course. There is not a 2A State tournament and we are the only 2A team to qualify for this tournament so we call ourselves the” 2A State Champs” We were only 6 shots out of the lead and shot 324 the first day and 314 the final day.

We tied for 2nd in regulation with A.C. Flora and lost a sudden death play off by 1 shot. Bluffton High School won and shot 318-314.

The team consist of  Anne Marie Covar, Cody Corley, Kim Herring and McKenzie Talbert. All 4 girls played well for the 2-day event. McKenzie Talbert is the 3A State Champion and shot 68-71 and broke the course record at Quail Creek. Anne Marie Covar also made All-State and shot 78-73.
