STHS Lady Rebel Golf Team Places Third In State

SPORTS – Congratulations to the Strom
Thurmond High School Lady Rebel Golf Team who brought home a third
place finish in the 2009 State Golf Competition. The event was held
October 26 and 27 on the Quail Creek at Coastal Carolina course.
McKenzie Talbert, a freshman at Strom Thurmond High captured the State
3A Golf Championship Title with a score of 68-71-139. Her score was 4
shots ahead of the second place finisher and she broke the course
record on Monday with a 68-4 under par score.
Senior Anne Marie Covar was named to
the All State Team along with
McKenzie.
The first day of the event found the Lady Rebels playing in rain. They
ended this day tied for second with Riverside and were only 6 shots
behind the 1st place team, Bluffton. The local team had a total score
of 324.
On the second day of play, the team finished with a score of 314 and
tied with A.C. Flora. After the playoff round, the Lady Rebels ended up
in third place, 1 shot behind second place and 6 shots behind first
place.
There were thirteen teams competing in the event from divisions 1, 2
and 3A The Strom Thurmond Lady Golfers were the only 2A team to qualify
for the state competition.
Members of the team are: Anne Marie Covar, McKenzie Talbert, Kim
Herring and Cody Corley. Coach for the Lady Rebels is Nickie Lorimer.
The team brought home a trophy for their achievement and McKenzie
received a Gold Medal for her title.
