Two Rebels Make North-South All Star Game

By Tim Crane
web posted November 3, 2011

SPORTS – Strom Thurmond senior quarterback Raleigh Yeldell (Left) and senior offensive lineman Chris Herrin have been selected to the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association North-South All Star game. The game, which pits the top upstate players from all classifications against the top lower-state players from across all classifications, will be held to be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, in Myrtle Beach, on Saturday December 10.

Yeldell (#7) said of his being picked, “To make the team is an honor and means a lot to me.  It also means that my hard work and my teammate’s hard work have paid off.  I couldn’t do the things I do on the field without such a great surrounding cast.  I am looking forward to competing against some of the best players in the state and getting after it like we do here at Thurmond.”

Herrin (#73) had similar credits to the team. “Making the All Star team means a lot to me.  I couldn’t have done it without the help of my teammates.  We’ve all put in a lot of hard work and I would like to thank my teammates in helping me earn this honor.  I can’t wait to see how these other team’s do things and if they work as hard as we do here and not take any plays off.  I’m ready to try my skills against some of the best competition in the state.”

The three year starting Yeldell has thrown for more than 3500 yards and 31 touchdowns plus rushed for 2200 yards and 24 more touchdowns, from his quarterback position since 2009.

Herrin, also a three year starter on the offensive line, has been one of the main ingredients in helping Yeldell achieving such big numbers.

They will represent the North All Star team.

Edgefield Daily is extremely proud of these two for earning such a prestigious accomplishment.
