Future Looks Bright, JV Rebels Finish Season 8-1

By Tim Crane
web posted November 11, 2009
SPORTS – Strom Thurmond’s JV football team finished the season 8-1 and captured the Region Championship when they defeated Newberry 16-13.  They followed that win with an impressive 39-0 shellacking of Gilbert's JV team to end the season.

The future Blue Steel boys had five shutouts and in three of the games the defense only allowed one score. Their only loss was to North Augusta's JV team in the second week of the season.  This was the best JV record since Coco Hillary led his JV team to a similar record back in 2002.

In Coco's senior year (2005) Strom Thurmond won the Class AAA State Championship. Many critics believe this jayvee team will have the potential and talent to be as successful as the 2005 team, over the next few seasons.

The head coach of the team is Dusty Triplett. Assistant coaches are Coach Jody Mathis, Coach Handy Johnson, and Coach Brown.

Congratulations on a great season and the community is looking forward to similar success when you guys reach the varsity level.
