Central ends Rebels hopes with 14-9 defeat
web
posted November 21, 2009
SPORTS – The Strom Thurmond Rebels went
down fighting in the third round of the playoffs Friday night against
last year’s opponent Pageland Central with a score of 14-9. After
trailing 14-3 at the half, the Rebels came alive in the fourth quarter
to tack on another 6 points but failed to score on a 2-point
conversion. With only minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Rebels
took over after an interception and inspired the Rebels supporters that
a win was still within their grasp.
The Rebels drove into scoring range aided with a personal file that
placed them well inside Central’s side of the field at the 43.
The Rebels were moving but the drive ended in disaster as a miscue led
to a turn over with just over a minute to play to play in the game. The
Rebels were able to stop the clock once, but it was not enough to force
a release of the ball and the Eagles ran the clock out.
Tim Crane will have his recap of the game available by Monday.
EdgefieldDaily.com salutes the Strom Thurmond Rebels in their
determined play that ended with a repeat of last year’s defeat by
Central to take them out of contention for another state title in round
three of the playoffs.
