Sen.
Tommy Moore campaign admits to improper donations
web posted January 14, 2006 COLUMBIA – South Carolina State Senator Tommy Moore’s (D-Clearwater) gubernatorial campaign admitted it had taken more than the allowable amount of money from a political party on Thursday. South Carolina Republican Party leader Katon Dawson had charged Sen. Moore of taking $50,000 from the South Carolina Senate Democratic Caucus and an additional $4,000 from the Edgefield and McCormick County Democratic party. State law says a candidate may receive no more than $50,000 from a political party in a single election cycle. The Moore campaign attributed the mistake to a clerical error and the late December filing date according to a report by The Augusta Chronicle. Campaign Disclosure forms are filed quarterly with the South Carolina Ethics Commission. On Thursday, the Moore campaign sent $4,000 to the Children's Trust Fund in order to comply with state election laws. With $818,667.15 received so far, Sen. Moore’s campaign is lagging sorely behind the re-election contributions received by incumbent Mark Sanford (R) who has received $4,621,216.63. With just $600,226.62 on hand Sen. Moore is up against a massive $3,927,251.24 deficit compared to Gov. Mark Sanford’s war chest reported as $4,527,477.86 on hand cash. Other contributors in Edgefield County that have contributed to the Moore campaign include J. M. Pendarvis ($500); Martin IMI Inc. ($2,520); George L Rainsford ($500); and Palmetto Overhead Door ($1,000) according to a South Carolina Ethics Commission Campaign Disclosure report obtained by EdgefieldDaily.com. Sen. Moore, who is relying on his home base support to build his campaign, missed the volatile Edgefield County Council meeting to address a traffic light at Bettis Academy Road and Highway 25, which is in his home district. Rep. Don Smith (R- North Augusta) also brushed off the meeting. The County Council had requested the Sate Legislative Delegation, as well as SCDOT Officials, to be present to answer constituents concerns of SCDOT inaction at the deadly intersection. For
