SCE&G’s EnergyWise for Your Business Program Helps National
Retailer Increase Energy Efficiency in Two South Carolina
Stores
web posted February 13, 2013
COLUMBIA – Two Rooms To Go locations in
Columbia and North Charleston, S.C. are lighting the way to energy
savings, thanks to SCE&G’s EnergyWise® for Your Business
program. The EnergyWise for Your Business program provides incentives
for SCE&G electric customers who make energy-efficient improvements
to their businesses. By participating in the program, Rooms To Go
received incentives totaling $37,650 for converting the old
comparatively inefficient halogen lighting at its Harbison and North
Charleston stores to new energy efficient light-emitting diode (LED)
bulbs.
LEDs typically use approximately 75 percent less energy than
halogen/incandescent lighting and last about two to five times longer
than fluorescent lighting.
“We’re committed to helping customers find ways to be energy wise and
are pleased that Rooms To Go has seen an increase in energy savings
since participating in SCE&G’s program,” said Lavita Harriford,
program manager for SCE&G’s EnergyWise for Your Business program.
Harriford continued, “For most retail businesses, lighting can account
for up to 60 percent of annual electricity costs. However, by taking
advantage of recent advances in lighting technology and incentives
offered through SCE&G’s programs, businesses can reduce energy
consumption and make their lighting projects more cost effective.”
The lighting upgrades to the Harbison and North Charleston locations
are part of a Rooms To Go national effort to install energy-efficient
lighting in 115 retail locations throughout the country. As a result,
the national retail chain has increased energy efficiency and reduced
overall store energy consumption 35-45 percent on average.
“Rooms To Go is committed to energy conservation and installing LED
lights in our stores is just one more way we can conserve,” said Rooms
To Go CEO Jeffrey Seaman. “SCE&G’s EnergyWise for Your Business
program is innovative and proactive. Their incentives have enabled us
to reduce our energy consumption and save money. Rooms To Go is
proud to set a positive example for companies striving to be energy
efficient and operationally effective.”
SCE&G’s EnergyWise for your Business program offers financial
incentives and technical assistance to help reduce the cost of energy
efficiency improvements, regardless of the size or nature of its
business customers. Since the program’s inception in October 2010,
SCE&G has awarded more than $4.6 million in rebates to hundreds of
South Carolina electric business customers. There are several offerings
with incentives, including Lighting, HVAC equipment, and Food Service
and other High Efficiency Equipment. Custom incentives are also
available for other cost-effective projects with verifiable energy
savings.
