Rep. Curtis Brantley Announces Re-election Bid
web
posted February 25, 2008
RIDGELAND, SC
- Representative
Curtis Brantley announced Friday that he would be seeking a second term
in the SC House of Representatives. Brantley was joined atop the
steps of the Jasper County Courthouse by several community leaders,
including Pastor William Galloway, Theodus Drayton, Clifford Brantley
and Herman Brantley in announcing his intentions.
Rep. Brantley said he was grateful to all the District 122 residents
and promised to continue providing exemplary constituent service.
Pastor Galloway expressed his support, saying, "I encourage all
citizens to vote for Representative Brantley because of the outstanding
job he has done in the first year as representative. He is working hard
to secure the Jasper port to bring jobs to our county."
Estill Mayor Thomas Owens echoed those sentiments through an
endorsement statement, stating, "Rep. Brantley works hard for the
people of District 122 and has earned the right to be re-elected to the
House of Representatives."
Retired military officer Theodus Drayton recalled, "I've known
Representative Brantley all my life and I find him to be a man of
integrity and an individual that has the interest of the citizens at
heart. Being a man of integrity I know he will do well going back to
Columbia to represent us. That is why I support him."
Legislatively, Rep. Brantley noted that his top priorities would be
continuing his work to ensure the Jasper Port comes to fruition,
increasing economic opportunities for people in the region, fighting
for educational equality and improving the quality of life for seniors.
Rep. Leon Howard, Chair of the Black Caucus, was not in attendance but
praised Brantley's work in the House, saying, "As a valued member of
the Legislative Black Caucus and the Military, Medical and Public
Affairs Committee, Rep. Brantley has served the people of Jasper and
Hampton counties with distinction. A man of great integrity and
wisdom, the voters of District 122 would be wise to re-elect Curtis
Brantley."
Clifford Brantley was particularly pleased with the results of Rep.
Brantley's efforts, saying, ""I support Representative Brantley because
of his long time public service to Jasper County. With a wide range of
issues including education as well as working hard to secure the port
in an effort to bring well paying jobs to both Jasper and Hampton
counties. In a little over 13 months he has already secured well over 3
million dollars in grants for both Jasper and Hampton counties. I ask
everyone to join me in voting for Rep. Brantley. Let us send him back
to Columbia so he can continue the good job of representing the people
of Jasper and Hampton counties."
Always the optimist, Rep. Brantley concluded by proclaiming, "The
wonderful people of District 122 deserve the best representation
possible. I am honored to have been elected once and humbly ask
for your support again. Working together, we can make our future
brighter and better than ever. I promise to do everything in my
power to make that happen."
Rep. Brantley is a lifelong educator, teaching and serving as principal
at various Jasper County schools throughout his career. Most
recently, he was Superintendent of Jasper County School District from
1998-2000. He was first elected to the SC House of
Representatives in 2006. Rep. Brantley lives in Ridgeland with
his wife Doris and is a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
