Anderson announces bid for District 25 State Senate

web posted March 11, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield businessman and attorney Greg Anderson announced today his candidacy for State Senate District 25.  Anderson says education, health care access, job growth, and combating gang activity are his top priorities. “I’m running to serve. My loyalty and best efforts will be directed toward being a strong and independent advocate for the people of senate district 25,” said Anderson.

The decision did not come lightly. “Like every other major decision in my life, my family was a major consideration. Patti and I prayed long and hard about this undertaking,” Anderson said. “She and my daughters have strongly encouraged me to enter this race because they understand how important it is for us all to give back to the community that has been so good to us.”

As a lifelong resident of Edgefield County and graduate of Clemson University and University of South Carolina Law School, Anderson has been a community leader in Edgefield County for nearly three decades. He has served as an Assistant Solicitor for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit and his community service also includes two years as Chairman of the Edgefield County Hospital Board.

Anderson currently maintains a general practice law firm in Edgefield. Among other entities, he represents the Towns of Edgefield, Johnston and Trenton as well as the School District of Edgefield County. Anderson said these experiences make him uniquely qualified to address the issues that concern his constituents.

“Having represented the School District for the last 20 years, I know first hand what problems our leaders in education face,” Anderson said and stressed that his day to day contact with people from all walks of life provides him with an insight into their concerns.

“These every day experiences I have had working with people in our community for the last 27 years have prepared me to represent their needs and concerns in Columbia. I have seen what happens when people lose their jobs or have to borrow money to pay their bills. The issues that affect our lives don’t carry partisan labels. I’m running to serve all the people of senate district 25, to work together to forge real solutions and to make lasting progress for our communities and our state,” Anderson concluded.

Mr. Anderson will be officially filing for his candidacy next week as filing opens on March 16.
