Aramis Hillary leaves Gamecocks

web posted March 25, 2010
COLUMBIA – Aramis Hillary has left the South Carolina Gamecocks and will be heading to a lower level college although he had been reinstated after an alcohol related arrest earlier this month and returned to spring practice.

According to a report by The State on Wednesday, “Hillary was one of three players vying for the Gamecocks' backup quarterback job this spring behind Stephen Garcia. He is now the second quarterback to leave the team in the offseason, joining Reid McCollum in pursuing other options.”

Rated as number 14 in the ranks of the top “duel-threat” quarterbacks in the nation, Hillary never took a snap since joining the Gamecocks as a red shirt freshman two years ago.

Aramis, a former standout at Strom Thurmond, and his brother Coco Hillary, were arrested in West Columbia after a traffic stop. Coco, also a former Rebel’s star quarterback, was charged with DUI in the case on March 12.

Coco Hillary is currently a wide receiver for Appalachian State.
