DeMint Reports over $2.2 Million in Campaign Account

web posted April 16, 2009
COLUMBIA – U.S. Senator Jim DeMint’s campaign announced Wednesday that he has $2.2 million cash-on-hand after raising nearly $700,000 in the first quarter of 2009 for his re-election campaign. The campaign’s quarterly financial report detailing campaign finance data was being filed with the Secretary of the U.S. Senate and the FEC Wednesday. DeMint also used this occasion to announce his campaign’s six statewide finance co-chairs.

DeMint named the following finance co-chairmen of his campaign, the former Ambassador to Canada and former Speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives, David Wilkins; leading conservative low country donor and industrialist, Bill Hewitt; nationally recognized commercial real estate developer and 2009 honoree of the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame, Joe Edens; former SC Republican Party Chairman and Spartanburg financial advisor, Barry Wynn; top upstate GOP fundraiser and well known philanthropist, John Rainey; and successful International businessman and respected midlands political fundraiser, Peter Brown.

Senator DeMint said, “This is certainly a ‘Dream Team’ of Palmetto State Fundraisers.  I am so appreciative of the tremendous financial support our campaign is already experiencing under their leadership. I am also thrilled with the level of support we have been able to generate online.”

Former Ambassador David Wilkins added, “Producing these kinds of fundraising numbers in this difficult economy is remarkable and a real testament to the power of Senator DeMint’s fight for common sense reforms to secure our freedoms. South Carolinians already know he is a principled man that just doesn’t sit around and talk about trying to fix our economy. He actually does something about it.  I’m excited to be involved in his reelection campaign.”

Former State Republican Party Chairman Barry Wynn said, "Senator DeMint fights tirelessly for South Carolina values everyday he's in Washington, and this impressive amount of donations shows that the people of South Carolina are eager to fight with him. He's built up such a strong base of support throughout our state because he's a proven leader that understands it’s the people that make America great, not our government."
