Gov. Haley Comments on Highest Employment in SC History

web posted April 21, 2014

COLUMBIA – Governor Nikki Haley issued the following statement in response to South Carolina’s unemployment rate decreasing to 5.5 percent in March from 5.7 percent in February. At a six year low, February marks the tenth consecutive month the unemployment rate has decreased in South Carolina and the first time it has been more than a full point below the national rate in over 16 years.

Since January 2011, the unemployment rate has dropped a full 5 percentage points. Additionally, 2,046,002 South Carolinians were employed in March – the highest level in the state’s history.

“Dropping our unemployment rate a full five points since January 2011 says a lot about our state and the hardworking people who make it their home. With more South Carolinians working than ever before, it’s clear we are consistently moving in the right direction and that is another great reason to celebrate.”
