Sen. Moore no more web posted July 11, 2007 AIKEN – South Carolina State Senator Tommy Moore has called it quits and resigned his position as Senator on Monday. Moore, who has served in Columbia for the past 29 years, now has many of his supporters questioning his newfound career. Mr. Moore will be taking a job in Virginia and will work in Washington D.C., according to reports, supporting the payday cash loan industry, possibly as a lobbyist. Moore served in the South Carolina Congress since 1979, two years in the House of Representatives and then as senator from 1981 until July 10 of this year. Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell accepted Sen. Moore’s resignation on Saturday. McConnell said in a provided statement, “Because of Senator Moore, the state of South Carolina has judicial election reform, tort reform, Public Service Commission and Santee Cooper reform, property tax reform, and DOT reform. He was also the force behind strengthening our state’s ethics and campaign laws.” Calls to Mr. Moore’s Clearwater Office were not returned. Filing for Moore’s now vacant senate seat will open July 27 and close August 6, and a primary will be held September 18 with a runoff set for October 2 if needed. The special election will be held on November 6. For
