![]() Sanford holds "commanding lead" over Moore web posted October 26, 2006 COLUMBIA – Governor Mark Sanford holds a commanding lead in the upcoming general election, according to independent poll figures posted online today. (Rasmussen Reports, www.politics1.com) With less than two weeks remaining before the general election, national poll-watcher Politics1.com is reporting Governor Sanford’s lead has increased to 23 points over his Democratic challenger Tommy Moore, 57 percent to 34 percent. While several independent polls have shown the governor with a comfortable lead throughout the election season, Sanford’s lead continues to increase as the election draws near and more voters take the time to examine the issues and consider both candidates. “While Governor Sanford represents the values of most South Carolinians, Tommy Moore relies on his liberal buddies Hillary Clinton and John Kerry for help,” said chairman Katon Dawson, South Carolina Republican Party Chairman. Senator Hillary Clinton’s Political Action Committee was the very first donor listed on Moore’s most-recent campaign disclosure, with Moore accepting $3,500 from the New York Senator. Meanwhile, Senator John Kerry spent time in South Carolina last week campaigning on Moore’s behalf. It was the second time this year the failed presidential candidate traveled to South Carolina and called for voters to elect Tommy Moore. “South Carolinians want a governor who will stand by his convictions, not someone who will look for cover from his liberal buddies,” Dawson concluded.
