Strom Thurmond High School's Student Council is on the Rise web posted January 30, 2007 By: Ronnell Hill JOHNSTON – During the first few months of the current school year, the students of Strom Thurmond High School chose new officers for the school's Student Council. As a result of this process, seniors Ridge Yeldell and Markia Randle received the positions of President and Vice President. Also a senior, Marla Brown received the position of Treasurer and junior Delonta Jones was appointed Secretary. With several committee leaders and many homeroom representatives, STHS Student Council is working and planning on things to help better their school and community. This past November, Student Council hosted a Fall Dance. According to many, it was a really great event. With Dance Committee leader Fernanda Pineda in charge, the school's first dance in several years attracted as many as it amazed. Several students commented on the dance as being "off da chain," "tight," and "more than what I expected." The nearly four-hour long event was a great experience and opportunity for Student Council as well as the students of Strom Thurmond. With such results, the Dance Committee would like to thank all the many people who made the dance such a success: Principal Greg Thompson, Ms. Tracee Eubanks, DJ Mr. Calvin, the members of Student Council, all the students of Strom Thurmond who participated, the staff who volunteered, Edgefield’s Bi-Lo who donated several concessions, and all security and custodial officials who willingly helped. As the new year progresses, the members of Student Council are planning many new and exciting things. Several of these will be in the fields of teacher appreciation, school beautification, and community service. Be on the lookout for another school dance and also look for a promising year from Strom Thurmond High School's 2006-2007 Student Council. For
