“Parent University” to be held Feb. 28

JOHNSTON – The Third Annual Edgefield
County School District Educational Summit – “Parent University” will be
held on February 28, 2009 at JET Middle School. The day will begin with
registration from 9:00 am – 9:30. Guests will be able to view and
receive handouts at exhibits from community agencies and service areas
in the cafeteria. Light refreshments will be served.
Two sessions will be held this year. The first session is from 9:45 –
10:45 and the second session is from 11:00 – 12:00.
Topics thus far to be presented are: Raising Readers – Birth to Age 5
with presenters Bridget Clark, Peach Grant Literacy Director and
Literacy Coaches-Lynn Bowie, Stephanie Humphries, Alfreda Turner and
Melissa Turner; “Empowering Parents in Pathways to Success”-presenter
Cynthia Pitts, Coordinator Upper Savannah Regional Education Center,
“Blended Families: Challenges and Rewards” presented by Donna Strom, a
licensed Professional Counselor and National Board Certified Counselor
with the Center for Care and Counseling as well as current Director of
Special Services for the Edgefield County School District; “Catch the
SCOOP on PASS” presented by Dianne Murrell, Assistant Superintendent
for Instructional Services Edgefield County School District, “High
School and Beyond” presenter Rhonda Herlong, Strom Thurmond Career
Center Guidance Counselor.
Featured exhibitors will be Edgefield County Hospital, Edgefield County
Sheriff’s Department, Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce, SRP,
Edgefield County Adult Education, Edgefield County Reading Council,
“YES” Program, Headstart, Town of Edgefield, Edgefield County School
District Summer Enrichment Programs, Child Find, Child Development and
Kindergarten Registration Information and Edgefield County School
District Transportation Department.
A special event on “Drug Awareness” will be held in the JET gym for
students.
Make plans now to attend the “Parent University” to receive valuable
information to help you with your child’s education.
