 STHS Robotics Team Competes web posted February 13, 2008 JOHNSTON – The Strom Thurmond High School Robotics Team competed in the second annual FIRST Tech Robotics Challenge which was held at South Carolina State University on February 8, 2008. The students have been working for months to design and build a radio-controlled robotics device that could score points in the Quad Challenge. FIRST Tech Challenge encourages students to use creative-problem solving skills and to become excited about using mathematics, science and technology. The team competed in a total of four qualifying matches and began the alliance selection ranked 18th out of 53 teams. The team overcame many challenges, from the robot not moving to a string breaking, to compete with the sixth place alliance. The students learned about problem solving, team building, and the importance of planning during the competition. The prevailing voice from the students was “Wait until next year.” ©
