Thurmond FFA Places 2nd in Region

web posted February 23, 2012

JOHNSTON – Have you ever wondered what a Plumb Bob was? What about the proper use of a 90 degree pipe elbow? The students on the Thurmond FFA Tool Identification Team know all of this and more. As a matter of fact, they have to identify
and tell the use of 190+ tools!  They competed on Feb. 14th at the Chester Co. Career Center for the title of the FFA Mid State Tool Identification CDE winner.

Students took a written exam on the proper use of tools, as well as participated in an identification section. This event is open to students who are active FFA members and are freshmen or sophomores enrolled in their first year of Agricultural Education.

The CDE stimulates knowledge, interest, and understanding of the various tools used in the agriculture industry. Members of the Thurmond FFA Tool ID team are: Micah Goforth, Brittany Berry, Lucky Bailey and Leigh Northrop. The team finished 2nd in the region and will advance to the State Contest in Columbia this April. Brittany Berry was also named Top Individual at the contest with almost a perfect score!

The tractor driving team also competed with a 5th place overall finish and team members were: Austin Fulmer, Kevin Smith, Kyle Smith and Jimmy Foley. Their advisors are: Darla Steele & Dan Henderson.Thank you to the Chester Co. Center for hosting these events.
