Strom Thurmond Career Center Holds Advisory Committee Meeting

JOHNSTON – Mr. Willie Green, Strom
Thurmond Career Center Director and instructors of the Career Center
gathered with community business leaders on February 18 for an Advisory
Committee Meeting. Those in attendance enjoyed dinner and were
presented a presentation on course offerings and highlights of each
department at the school.
Following the program, business representatives went into breakout
sessions with each department area they represented to focus on the
needs of strengthening the career center curriculum and opportunities
for students. The Advisory Committee will continue to meet twice
a year to assist the career center as they write their yearly Plan of
Action.
Community representatives were Bob Bowie-retired US Soil Conservation
Service; Justin Burton-Golf Course Superintendent for Pine Ridge
Country Club; Hugh Bland-Piedmont Tech Diversified Agriculture Program,
Saluda Campus; Brad Swiger-Edgefield County Hospital Physical
Therapist; Karen Rodgers-Assisting Director of Nursing at Trinity
Mission Nursing Home; Christopher Douse-Regions Bank and Kathy
Sauther-owner Southern Fabrics. Students on the Advisory Committee are;
Lance Swiger-Health Occupations, Adam Talbert-Business and Julia
Miller-Agriculture.
