  Edgefield County Young Farmers Association Named Top in Region by State Association web posted March 2, 2013 JOHNSTON – The Edgefield County Young Farmers Association is no stranger in the agriculture world. The community organization is known throughout the county for their work with the agriculture industry and the agriculture program at Strom Thurmond and this year has been no different. The group has been named the Mid-State Region Young Farmer Chapter of the Year by the South Carolina Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association. In October the student component of the agriculture program at Strom Thurmond, the Strom Thurmond FFA Chapter, was named a National FFA 3 Star - Gold Emblem Chapter out of over 7,400 FFA programs from across the nation. They also took home the prestigious South Carolina Governor’s Citation for Community Development, naming them the top FFA chapter in the area of student development for South Carolina. And just this month the adult component of the agriculture program, the Edgefield County Young Farmer Association, was selected by the South Carolina Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association as the South Carolina Mid-State Region Young Farmer chapter of the year.
