Parent charged in assault on coach

web posted Apri 27, 2006

EDGEFIELD – The man accused of striking Coach Woolsey after a softball game Monday night has been charged and arrested records from the Edgefield County Detention Center show. Hitt Watkins Arnold III turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office late Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Arnold, 44, of Scenic Drive, was booked and charged with simple assault and battery and disruption of a school. He was released on a personal recognizance bond the same day.

Mr. Arnold, if convicted, could face fines and other court related costs up to $3,025 and/or no more than 90 days in jail. The case has been forwarded on to General Sessions Court for trail rather than being heard in Magistrate Court Magistrate Brenda Carpenter said.

Court observers say the case will probably be remanded back to Magistrate Court. However, since it is involving a school official, that could keep it in General Sessions purview.
