![]() Board names new principles web posted Apri 27, 2006 JOHNSTON – The Edgefield County School Board voted to name two new principals Tuesday night. On the heels of a vote denying Gaye Holmes as principle for JET Middle School just a few weeks ago, the Board voted to hire Holmes as the new principle at Merriwether Middle School. The Board also approved the hire of Louis Scott as the new principle at JET Middle School. The search committee recommended vice-principle Gaye Holmes for the JET Middle School job after a search, interviews, and checking qualifications last month. The School Board refused the recommendation. Louis Scott, a vice-principle at Strom Thurmond, will be taking the JET position and Ms. Holmes will take over Merriwether Middle from departing principle Virginia Culberson. Mr. Scott, who also coached sports at Strom Thurmond, will probably have to give up coaching to take the position. What effect that will have on the football program at Thurmond remains unknown. With the recent news of Coach Smallen leaving for Coastal Carolina University that could leave the State Championship coaching staff with two large holes to fill. For
