Jones suspended from play in all sports
after arrest Edgefielddaily.com web posted August 10, 2005 JOHNSTON - Strom Thurmond High School Principle Greg Thompson told Edgefield Daily.com that Kevin Jones, who was arrested on felony charges this past Friday, has been suspended from any and all activities relating to sports, including his starting position as an All Region defensive end for the Fighting Rebels Football team. Mr. Thompson stated that further disciplinary actions could be forthcoming depending on the results of their own investigation into the charges. “Right now we are still gathering facts in the matter,” Mr. Thompson said adding that if the charges are serious enough Mr. Jones could be removed from the school if it is felt he is a threat to other students. One would certainly feel if an individual will threaten Sheriff's Deputies and other officials they would be a threat to children. That decision will be left to the administration or the board Mr. Thompson said. “For now Mr. Jones is not allowed to be involved in any athletic activity at the school,” Mr. Thompson said. “What follows remains to be seen.” Court observers say the charges will be passed on to the General Sessions Court and away from local Magistrates. "Most of the serious felonies are passed on to the higher courts," one observer stated. General Sessions Court begins next week and it is very unlikely this case will be on the docket some said, "he may get a hearing, but the case will not come up for some time," one court official said on condition of anonymity Return to Main Page
