HOSA Students Attend Fall Conference

LEXINGTON – Five
hundred and fifty members
of HOSA from across the state gathered for Fall Leadership Conference
on October 16th at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington, SC.
Among the attendees were Strom Thurmond Career Center students:
Kenkaylia Lindsey, Treasurer; Stacie Morgan, Historian; Erin Armstrong,
President; Savanna Phillips, VP of Fundraising Activities and Advisors,
Robin Herrin and Diana Wintrow.
The National HOSA President, who is from Pelion, SC, was also in
attendance. Dr. Jim Rex and Dr. Sue Rex spoke to the members during the
Business Session. Dr. Sue Rex presented a video on Shaken Baby
Syndrome. All hospitals in SC who deliver babies will be required to
show a video containing this information prior to discharging a new
mother and infant as of January 2008.
The members then attended break out sessions including: Newberry
College Majors, Competitive Events Prep, Medical Reserve Corp, Sutism
Speaks, Leadership Training, and Teambuilding Training.
The guest speaker was Frank Cannon. He has performed on the Grand Ole
Opry and with Diamond Rio. As a treat, he opened with a song and ended
with a song. His talk was, "Being a Difference Maker, Not an Average
Shaker" - What your attitude can do for you."
