14 Strom Thurmond FFA Students Travel to National FFA Convention in
Indianapolis

COUNTY – The Strom Thurmond FFA
traveled
to Indianapolis, IN this week to compete in 3 National Competitions in
the areas of: Forestry, Agronomy, and Extemporaneous Public Speaking.
These state winning students include: Allie Jhant, Colton Kirkland,
Logan Pollock, Kevin Smith, Jimmy Foley, Karson Barrett, Robbie Guess,
Morgan Spaulding, Andrew Wilhelm, Diana Palma, Leigh Northrop, Jennifer
Rutland, Ben Rohr, and Cody Borden.
They competed on the national level, participated in multiple national
FFA activities, world class rodeo, Brantley Gilbert & Band Perry
concert, award programs and more.
They had a great week in Indy! Allie Jhant finished as a national
bronze finalist for the Extemporaneous Public Speaking contest. Her
topic was: How Does Technology affect the field of Agriculture.
Her speech was polished and informative. The Agronomy team:
Morgan Spaulding, Robbie Guess, Andrew Wilhelm and Karson Barrett
finished as a national silver finalist.
They competed in various crop and soil science practicums,
identification & written test. Also, the Forestry team: Colton
Kirkland, Logan Pollock, Kevin Smith and Jimmy Foley finished as
national bronze finalist. Colton and Kevin also both finished as
national silver individuals. Lastly, The Strom Thurmond FFA
Chapter received a National 3-star Gold Chapter rating. This is the
highest rating for FFA chapters. This makes them amongst the best in
the nation!
Advisors for the Strom Thurmond FFA chapter are: Darla Steele and
Jeremy Brooks.
