Students Hear Representative From
SC Governor’s School For The Arts And Humanities

JOHNSTON – Strom Thurmond High School and Fox Creek High School gifted and talented students had the opportunity to hear from Mr. Ric Standridge, Area Representative of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities last week.
   
Mr. Standridge presented a quick reference of the programs offered by the Governor’s School and noted the many benefits that students could gain from attending the school.
   
The Governor’s School offers a Summer Programs where students live in the campus community an experience the challenges and rewards of intensive arts training, creative writhing, drama, music or visual arts. Opportunities of the Discovery Program key in on 8th grade students, with the Academy Program designed for 9th graders, and Summer Dance designed for 6th-11th grade students. The school also has a residential high school program, which gives the artistically talented high school students from all over the state have the opportunity to concentrate on their skills in a supportive environment of artistic and academic excellence. It is a nine-month public residential high school program.
   
Students were given information packages on the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. Guidance Counselor Mrs. Patricia Bryan, Guidance Counselor is the contact for students and parents who are interested in knowing more about the Governor’s School.
