Covar Signs golf scholarship with Wofford College

JOHNSTON – Anne
Marie Covar, a senior at
Strom Thurmond High School in Edgefield signed a National Letter of
Intent to play Women’s Golf at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South
Carolina. She was a six year starter for the Strom Thurmond girls’ golf
team and four year starter for the boys’ team.
Miss Covar was a three year Class AAA All-State girls’ golfer and
region medalist in 2009 with the boys’ team. She was named the
Class AA girls player of the year in 2008 following her runner-up
finish in the state tournament. Her team finished the 2008 season
as state runner-up and the 2009 season in third place.
Other accomplishments on the course include winning the 2008 Carolinas
Golf Association (CGA) Twin States Girls’ Championship and the 2007
South Carolina Junior Golf Association (SCJGA) Caddie Classic.
During the summer of 2009, she finished runner-up in the CGA Twin
States Championship, made the semi-finals in the CGA SC Match Play
Championship, qualified to play on the victorious Carolinas team in the
Carolinas/Virginia Team Matches, and finished third in the AJGA Girls
Championship at Furman University, where she fired a career low first
round of 69.
Off the course, Anne Marie enjoys attending football games and going to
movies. She is a member of the Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and the high school
Millennium Club.
She will be competing in the prestigious AJGA Polo Junior Classic in
Palm Beach Gardens, Florida during the week of Thanksgiving.
She is the daughter of Brad and Genna Covar of Edgefield.
