web posted April 15, 2005
Afternoon edition

The Edgefield County Planning Commission has issued the promised questionnaire to property owners along Sweetwater Road. Edgefield Daily.com received the questionnaire Friday, April 15, 2005. Supposedly affected property owners should have their copy as well.

The questionnaire asks a list of nine questions and asks residents to fill them out and return them to the planning commission no later than May, 3, 2005 in the provided self addressed stamped envelope. The meeting regarding the new zoning will be brought up at the 6:30 pm May, 12, 2005 regular meeting of the planning commission.

The questions are as follows:
1.    Do you live or own property on Sweetwater Road?
2.    Do you think that Sweetwater Road needs any type of zoning?
3.    Are there any types of construction, business, or operation that you would      not want to adjoin your property? Please list.
4.    If there was zoning on Sweetwater Road, how far do you think it should extend on each side of the road? 500 (Editors note: we assume feet), 1000, other
5.    If no type of zoning is incorporated, do you fell that any other measures should be taken to protect the beauty of the area?
6.    Would you like someone from the Building and Planning Office to call or visit you to explain what is proposed and why the Planning Commission is considering zoning on Sweetwater Road?
7.    Is growth on Sweetwater Road a concern to you? If yes, please explain.
8.    Do you care about what happens on Sweetwater Road?
9.     If there is zoning on Sweetwater Road, do you think it should go all the way to Edgefield?

The questionnaire is promised to be used in the decision of whether to forward the consideration on to the county council.

Edgefield Daily.com duly notes the same consideration was not given to the residents who were already promised protection from commercial growth by zoning in Merriwether when the commission voted to change the zoning status of protected home owners bordering property to commercial development.
