![]() Paid for by the Candidate Rash of car thefts possibly related web posted Apri 18, 2006 SWEETWATER – The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a stolen vehicle Friday morning. The owner, a Lakeview Road resident, said he has been out of town and when he returned his 1992 Saturn SLT was gone. The case was turned over to investigators and is said that it may involve a rash of stolen vehicles. In what investigators say may be a related case, two cars stolen from a Merriwether home on April 5 may have turned up at a local recycling center in North Augusta along with the most recent reported theft. The Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Randy Doran said his investigation leads him to believe the car thefts are related. Citing the ongoing investigation Investigator Doran declined to say what information obtained by investigators in a two-car grand theft auto case on Stephens Road had in common with the Lakeview Road theft other than to say, "it looks like they are related." The owner of the stolen Saturn told police he found his car at North Augusta recycling center where cars are crushed for reprocessing. It is believed the same person or persons sold the vehicles to the center even though they did not own them. EdgefieldDaily.com will continue to follow this case and provide updates when available.
