 Afternoon crash sends two to MCG web posted August 26, 2006  SWEETWATER – Just
before 4 p.m., 911 dispatchers were notified of a
crash on Highway 25 in front of the Town and Country store with
injuries. EMS, Sheriff Deputies, and the Highway Patrol responded to
the location. When they arrived, they found two women in a Buick
LaSabre injured after being broadsided by a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.The driver of the pickup truck stated he saw the women as they began to cross the northbound lanes of Highway 25 to enter the southbound lanes. “I tried to stop, but they just came right on out,” he said. The driver stated he swerved to the left to try to avoid the collision but struck the Buick in the driver’s side door and pushing it several yards before coming to rest in the crossway.  The impact caused
the truck to intrude almost two feet into the
driver’s compartment.Both women were alert and conscious while being extricated from the vehicle. The driver of the pickup was uninjured. Both women were immobilized and placed on backboards before being rushed to MCG’s Trauma Unit by ambulance. The car's driver complained of rib, arm, and back pain. Their injuries were not considered life threatening. The women, from Columbia County, Georgia, were supposedly buying peaches at a stand located next to the store just before the crash took place. Their present condition is unknown. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Their report was not available at this time. For
