SWEETWATER – A single car accident sent a man to the MCG Trauma Center with a head injury. The Chevrolet Camero was traveling north on Highway 25 just south of Stephen’s Road when he lost control of the car and left the right side of the roadways striking a culvert and a seven foot embankment. The driver ended up pinned between the car and the bottom of the culvert. The other occupant refused medical treatment. The County Line and Merriwether Volunteer Fire Departments responded along with EMS.

Early reports on the scene said there were three occupants in the car; however, later it was stated as two. The car slid off the right shoulder of the road and struck the culvert at a high rate of speed. At impact the rear glass of the car was throw over the car and the back tire landed on the hood as the body was twisted in the impact.

Neither of the Hispanic men, the driver nor the passenger, spoke English. The driver was very combative and had to be restrained on the stretcher. He was transported to the MCG Trauma Center in critical condition; his condition upon arrival was not available.

The passenger, who was translated by another Hispanic man on the scene, could not provide an address, Social Security number, or other information refused treatment on the scene. South Carolina Highway Patrolmen were interviewing the man as we left.

Information provided stated the driver did not have a driver’s license
