Crash sends five to Trauma Center
web posted November 29, 2005

SWEETWATER – An evening crash on Highway25 at Square Circle Ranch Road sent five to the MCG Trauma Center. A Ford Ranger XLT was traveling North on Highway 25 when a Toyota Camry LE tried to turn across the two northbound lanes to enter Square Circle Ranch Road. That is when the truck t-boned the Camry in the passenger side door sending both vehicles sliding to the entrance of the side road.

The County Line Fire Department, First Responders, EMS workers and Deputies arrived on the scene to find some of the four passengers of the Camry trapped in the car. Rescue workers and firemen took over an hour to remove all the victims from the car. The last one had to be cut out using the Jaws of Life.

The driver of the truck was seen walking about until first responders placed him in a neck brace and then placed him on a backboard, a procedure known as a “standing takedown,” to be transported for evaluation. At least two of the occupants were said to be in serious condition. All five were transported by ambulance to the MCG Trauma Center. Word on their condition was not available at this writing.

The accident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and charges are said to be pending the outcome of that investigation.
