Dining Review

Ten Governors Cafe
Courthouse Square, Edgefield

web posted May 22, 2006

EDGEFIELD – We entered the restaurant at 11:28 am. From the door you can see straight into the kitchen, and everything was very clean. We were immediately greeted by the owner and then the server (Dot), as she showed us to our booth and took our drink orders. We then served ourselves from the buffet, which consisted of 2 meats, more than 6 sides, plus salad and dessert.

Our sweet teas were brought as we were sitting down with our plates. I had fried pork chops, rice with black-eyed peas and tomatoes, homemade macaroni and cheese and a great slice of spice cake. My dining partner had fried chicken, rice and gravy, macaroni and cheese, fried okra and cake, as well.

Below: Owner Wayne Luquire awaits the daily crowd before opening
The food was all hot and freshly cooked, with just the right down-home taste to it. For those who do not want to eat from the buffet, there is also a short-order menu including burgers, salads, chicken strips and fries and more.

The server kept our tea filled to the top, and checked on us often enough to be sure everything was ok. When we finished eating we paid at the register as we left, around 12:00. The total tab for 2 buffets with tea was $15.90. Children eat at free/discounted prices.

The restaurant had clean restrooms, and a tv with the local weather on. For those with young children there are highchairs available. There are many booths, 4-seat tables and a few larger tables inside and  also 2 picnic tables outside for enjoying the nice weather. Parking is a bit tight as the restaurant is on the Edgefield square. I suggest going as early as possible as it gets more crowded, both for parking and eating, closer to 12:30.

The food and atmosphere leave nothing to be desired when you are looking for a casual, friendly place with good down-home southern cooking. We will certainly be going back for seconds!
