Two car crash blocks Highway 25 traffic, four injured
web posted January 20, 2006

TRENTON – Shortly before 9:00 pm a two-car crash was reported at the intersection of James Road and Highway 25 with one vehicle overturned. Edgefield County Deputies, EMS, and Trenton Firemen responded to the scene with four people injured and some of those entrapped in the vehicles. Upon arrival, a call was placed to have an AirMed chopper sent to fly the most critically injured to MCG Trauma Unit in Augusta, Ga. The crash had all traffic on Highway 25 blocked.

Dispatchers tried to reach off duty EMS personnel to assist in the rescue efforts and extraction of victims from the mangled vehicles. The AirMed helicopter arrived at the landing zone around 9:35 pm and awaited an ambulance to transport the victim to them. They were airborne at 9:52 pm with a 42 year-old woman with complaints of neck injuries and numbness. Her seat belt had suspended her upside down for about twenty minutes before being removed from the car.

All four victims were sent to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries, some said to be serious. Their condition was not available at this writing.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and rescue workers worked for over half an hour to extract all the victims. Traffic was restored to one lane more than an hour after the crash, periodically being stopped completely for movement of ambulances and rescue personnel. Traffic was restored around 10:30 pm.
