Scrap Metal Theft Suspects Nabbed After Running Out of Gas

web posted January 21, 2014

TRENTON The owner of a defunct peach stand on Highway 25 near the Industrial Park reported the theft of several pieces of scrap metal Monday afternoon. While Sheriff's Deputies were in route he checked with a local scrap yard to see if the items had been sold. The stolen property had not been sold, however, not long afterwards a deputy on patrol spotted a disabled vehicle on Highway 25 south near Square Circle Ranch Road. Inside the vehicle was the stolen metal.

An investigator and the owner of the property were called to the scene. Once the stolen property was identified the two men were arrested on the scene. They were transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center for booking. Due to the late hour, their names were not available.

Another suspect, a white female, was said to have left the scene prior to deputies arriving, to get gas. At this writing she had not been located.

The vehicle was towed to the Edgefield County Sheriff's impound lot.

The investigation is ongoing.
