web posted January 24, 2012 TRENTON – A Trenton man passing an unoccupied home
on Edgefield Road Friday afternoon noticed two men in a white truck
loading metal into the back of the truck. He called 911 and gave a
description of the truck and the men who were last seen pulling out of
the location and heading south on Highway 25.
An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy patrolled the area and was able to
locate the truck and the two men and conducted a traffic stop near
Bream Oak subdivision. There were numerous items of various types of
metal in the back of the truck as well as inside the truck. The men
were detained until the property owner arrived and identified several
items that were taken from his property.
The two men, both from Grovetown, Georgia, were then taken into
custody. A search of the truck turned up two glass "pipes", one with a
black, brown, and white residue inside and the second contained a white
residue. They were taken in as evidence and turned over to the
Sheriff's Narcotics Division for testing. Also found in the cab of the
truck were to open beers.
Robert James Gross, 46, and Phillip T. Astolfi, 47, were both booked on
charges of trespassing after notice, open container, larceny, and
illegal transport of non-ferrous metal without a permit. The truck was
towed from the scene.
