Former Trenton Resident Killed in Texas Crash
web posted February 1, 2013
CROSS PLAINS, TX – Former Trenton horse
trainer Steven "Steve" Wayne Pickett, 64, was killed in a head-on
collision after a two-car collision along Texas Highway 36,
between Cross Plains and Abilene, Texas. It occurred shortly after 4
p.m. Monday and also resulted in the death of the driver and the only
passenger in another vehicle, according to a report from the Texas
Department of Public Safety’s Abilene office.
Emergency responders transported the only passenger in Pickett’s Ford
pickup truck, William Bryan Partain, 36, Graham, Texas, to Hendrick
Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. He’s the only person among the four
involved who survived, according to QuarterHorseNews.com.
Pickett was a long-time resident of Trenton of more than 20 years with
his former wife Iris Pickett (now Spires) and their two children Audrey
"Sam" Pickett and Scott Pickett.
Mr. Pickett moved to Texas about 10 years ago where he continued to
flourish as a trainer of championship Quarter Horses.
A memorial service will be held in his current hometown in Texas on
Saturday.
