Former Trenton Resident Passes Away

web posted February 18, 2010
LAMAR – Ruth Jones Daniel of Lamar, beloved wife of Rev. Billy Daniel, passed into the loving arms of her Savior following a sudden illness on January 13.  Mrs. Daniel was born to the late Jacob Rowell and Bessie Jordan Jones of Galivants Ferry on May 23, 1937.

Mrs. Daniel was a loving pastor's wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She was a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully.  She was a 1954 graduate of Aynor High School and a 1957 graduate of The South Carolina Baptist School of Nursing.  While living in Trenton and serving as the Pastor's Wife at Ebenezer Baptist Church during the 1970s, Mrs. Daniel ministered as an R.N.  at The Edgefield County Nursing Home and later at The Edgefield County Hospital. For the past 26 years, she served at The Hampton Nursing Center/Sumter Health and Rehab in Sumter.  She began her tenure there as the Director of Nursing, and following her retirement in 2002, she continued to serve as a part-time R.N. until her death.

Mrs. Daniel is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Billy Daniel of West Main Street in Lamar; daughters Donna Daniel Teague and her husband Sam of Crescent Avenue in Greenville and Teresa
Daniel Stewart of Cottonwood Drive in Florence; sons David Daniel of West Seven Pines Street and Jonathan Daniel of Lee State Park Road both in Lamar; grandchildren Jordan Teague of Nashville, Daniel Teague of Greenville, Adam Daniel of Lamar, and Andrew and Christina Stewart of Florence; and three great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by sisters Bethany Robb of Lexington, Trudy Shockley of Simpsonville, Della Kirkland of Batesburg, Yvonne Stokes of Denmark, and many nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Daniel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Tom Jones, Rev. J.R. Jones, Jr., and Steve Jones; and sisters Marie Thompkins, Elnita Smith, and Nancy Casey.

A memorial service was held on January 14 at the Belk King Funeral Home Chapel in Lamar, and the funeral and graveside services were held on January 15 at Pisgah United Methodist Church in Galivants Ferry.  Memorials to the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 116543, Atlanta, GA 30368-6543 would honor Mrs. Daniel's lifelong passion for ministering to those who are suffering.
