Utility Vehicle Thefts Continue to Rise in Number

web posted February 19, 2013

TRENTON – A rash of ATV's and utility vehicle thefts continue to rise with two more reported over the weekend. Over the last ten days at least seven thefts have been reported totaling nearly $25,000 in value from various locations across the county, the two most recent were reported this weekend in Trenton.

On Friday morning a Woodyard Road man reported he returned home around 7 am after being gone overnight and noticed his green E-Z-Go utility vehicle with a brush guard on the front missing. The man told the responding deputy the cart had a cracked windshield in the upper right front and a "DNR" sticker on the rear. Also taken was a black utility trailer. The total value was estimated at $6,600.

An investigator was called to the scene and recovered footprints and tire tracks as evidence. No serial numbers were proved at the time of the report.

On Sunday afternoon an S.E. Diggs Road man called to report a red 1995 Kawasaki Bayou 220cc stolen from his yard. The ATV had an American flag sticker on the front and the number 13 on the side. The theft is believed to have taken place between 7 am and 3:30 pm Sunday.

Tire tracks and footprints were recovered at the scene by an investigator.

At this time there is no information provided linking the thefts.
