Crash slows traffic on Highway 19

web posted February 27, 2008
TRENTON – Sheriff’s Deputies, the Trenton Fire Department, and Edgefield County EMS were summoned to a report of a crash with the driver unconscious and possibly entrapped in the vehicle on the 3300 block of Highway 19 just after 2 Tuesday afternoon. When the first rescuers arrived on the scene they began treating the man who regained consciousness and became combative. The man told EMS workers and deputies he was not hurt and all he needed was a tow truck so he could continue on his way.

The Trenton man apparently had left and reentered the roadway several times before crashing through two mailboxes and coming to rest in a driveway culvert. The man tried to drive away and buried the rear tires of his pickup truck deep into the soft ground before going unconscious before rescuers arrived.

It quickly became apparent that his lack of consciousness was not due to injuries received in the crash, but from alcohol that had been consumed.

The man, who remained in his truck, repeatedly said he just wanted to continue on his way and denied being involved in a crash. The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrived a short time later and took over the investigation. Once asked to step out of the truck, Larry E. Foreman, 56, of Trenton, was taken into custody (Left) and charged with DUI and for having an open container.

He was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center for booking. The Ford F-150 truck was towed from the scene.
