Aiken Woman Arrested in Stolen Car

web posted March 27, 2014

TRENTON An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy was dispatched to check out a suspicious vehicle on Windy Ridge and Nicholson Roads. After patrolling the area the deputy located a silver Chrysler van on Windy Ridge Road that was stuck in the ditch. The woman driver told the deputy she got stuck while trying to turn around.

After speaking with the woman the deputy ran the tag on the 2009 van and it came back stolen out of Aiken County. The driver, identified as Katherine Michelle Tate, 36, of Aiken, was also found to have an expired drivers license.

Tate was taken into custody and charged with driving under suspension, possession of a stolen vehicle, and an ABC alcohol violation for having alcohol in the vehicle. A glass pipe, believed to be used to smoke drugs, was also found and seized as evidence.

Tate was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center and booked into custody. The stolen van was towed from the scene.
