  US Fibers Announces Expansion in Edgefield County, creation of 85 jobs web posted April 30, 2010 COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership announced Thursday that US Fibers, a recycler of PET Post Industrial and Post Consumer material, will expand its facility in Edgefield County. The $10.1 million investment is expected to generate 85 new jobs. The company is headquartered in Laurens County, where it also has a recycling plant. “We continue to see demand grow for our recycled materials, and this expansion will help us better serve our customers. South Carolina continues to offer our company an excellent business environment and we are pleased to continue making the Palmetto State our home,” said Steve Zagorski, vice president of New Business Development at US Fibers. Edward Oh, president and founder of US Fibers, has conducted recycling business in South Carolina for the past 20 years. According to Mr. Oh, “We are excited about the opportunity to grow our company while providing jobs in South Carolina and helping the local economy. We are grateful to our customers for their loyal support and continued commitment to US Fibers.” US Fibers will expand its polyester recycling operation in Trenton, which will allow the company to increase the facility’s capacity. The expansion will help position the company to enter new markets. Work on the expansion is expected to start in the third quarter of this year. “US Fibers is a leader in the recycling of PET materials and has been an important part of the South Carolina business community for years. This expansion signals the company’s continued commitment to our state, and also demonstrates that South Carolina’s business-friendly climate and skilled workforce are true assets that help foster growth among our existing businesses and attract new job opportunities to both our rural and urban areas. We wish US Fibers continued success in its endeavors here and look forward to continuing to grow our mutually beneficial relationship with them in the years ahead,” said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce. “Recycling operations are good for our state and our community; when combined with new jobs for Edgefield County, we are doubly blessed,” said Gary Stooksbury, chairman of the Board of the Economic Development Partnership. “US Fibers is a valued member of the corporate community, and we are pleased that they have chosen Edgefield County to expand their operations. We appreciate the confidence placed in our county and our workforce by US Fibers,” said Edgefield County Council Chairman Monroe Kneece. “US Fibers is a great organization that produces recycled materials for industries across the board. This significant investment in Edgefield County is proof positive that South Carolina, and Edgefield County in particular, has a skilled workforce capable of leading the way in a 21st century economy,” said state Sen. Shane Massey. “I appreciate US Fibers’ investment, and I look forward to their presence in Edgefield County for many years to come.” The company plans to begin hiring for the new positions by the beginning of the third quarter this year. The appropriate contact will be announced when the hiring process starts. Edgefield County and US Fibers are working an agreement to facilitate this project which will be presented to county council at its next regular session.
