Wood Pellet Industry Gets DHEC Permit for Construction of Plant

web posted May 8, 2014

TRENTON The Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has granted the needed permit for a wood pellet plant that could locate on over 100 acres along Highway 121 just outside of Trenton. The industry, Piedmont Wood Pellet Johnston LLC, a division of Enova Energy Group out of Atlanta Ga., is expected to move quickly now that the most important hurdle has been overcome.

The planned industry would be the largest single initial investment by an industry in Edgefield County history, estimated to be between $120 and $150 million. The new plant would provide between 60 and 70 above average paying jobs when operational.

Acquisition of the properties involved in the proposed industrial site is said to be underway.

The company has met with the county over the proposed industry, but there has been no official release on the industry actually coming to Edgefield County from the county.
