Another Urban Outfitters employee arrested

web posted May 25, 2006

TRENTON – Urban Outfitters called the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office to their Trenton facility just before 1:00 am Wednesday morning with the company stating they had an employee that has been stealing merchandise for four months. The employee admitted that he began stealing in February. Robert Washington, 29, of Edgefield Road, North Augusta, has been arrested and charged with felony breach of trust.

According to police reports and the Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Washington was stealing the merchandise and then selling it to others at a discounted price. Though no firm dollar amounts of goods were listed, Mr. Washington admitted to taking between $4,000 and $5,000 in merchandise.

Chief Investigator Randy Doran of the Sheriff’s Office said though stealing is a larceny, since Mr. Washington had access to the merchandise it was a breach of trust more than a larceny. If convicted of the charges Mr. Washington could face not more than 5 years in jail and not more than $1,000 in fines. Mr. Washington is still being held in the Edgefield County Detention Center at press time awaiting a bond hearing.
