web posted June 9, 2005

The Town of Trenton held their regular scheduled meeting tonight, June 8, 2005 at the Trenton Town Hall. Absent from the meeting was Councilman Bobby Turner.

After the Cal to Order, invocation and Pledge of Allegiance council was addressed by Ed Roach, one of the new owners of Trenton Plastic Productions, which will be located in the old Carlisle plant building. The company will employ as many as 100 by the end of the year and hopes to add another 100 by the end of next year.

Debbie Courtney was scheduled to speak but was not in attendance and Rose Ann Sexton address the council on the use of the Trenton Gym for a benefit for Gail Walters, of Johnston, who has cancer. The council approved the use of the gym and waived the usage fee.

The benefit dance will be held June 25, with admission and start time to be announced later, and will feature Marion Turner as D.J. providing a wide assortment of dance and music choices. All proceeds will go for the treatment of Ms. Walters.

Council also approved the May 11 minutes of the regular meeting and the bills and financial reports. Under Old Business the new Town Clock was said to be about 20 minutes slow and needed to be corrected with the proper time.

Council also addressed the list of final items that needed to be finished on the Enhancement Project of the Town Square which included 38 items. Council added two items, including putting curbing around some of the flower beds which will add about $1,300 and.

The Town Planning Commission reappointment of Rodney Cato, Councilman Joe Holmes’ appointment, was confirmed. The slot left vacant by Bennie Harris moving away remains unfilled. That appointment needs to come from Mayor Summers who has not decided on who she will appoint.

Council was informed by the mayor that the insurance payment for the Festival Insurance had been paid. Council was also informed that the SCLGAG Health Insurance would see a three per cent annual increase.

In other business council addressed the problem with ants, which had been confronted with spraying a few weeks ago which did not seem to be working. It was agreed that the town will spray the sidewalks, ball field, and the park before the Peach Festival.

With no other business before council the meeting was adjourned.
