 Animal Control investigates animal cruelty case web posted June 30, 2009 TRENTON – The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office was notified of possible animal cruelty by the owner of a dog on Whitlock Road this weekend. When the deputy arrived she saw the elderly owner of the dog releasing him from a chain and rope that was used to keep the dog from leaving the yard. The dog had obvious injuries and, “had trouble standing up on his hind legs,” an incident report stated. The deputy questioned the owner about the claim he was beating the dog with a stick. The owner denied hurting the dog and stated the dog injured himself trying to get off the chain. Among the reported visible injuries to the dog were injuries to his face, the inside of his mouth, and the dog appeared very weak. The deputy left the scene a spoke with the person reporting the animal cruelty and explained the findings. The complainant stated the beating was witnessed and in fact, the complainant had taken photos of the man beating the dog. All the information and evidence was collected and was turned over to Animal Control for further investigation and possible charges. © Copyright 2009
