Driver flees crash, two injured

web posted July 17, 2006

TRENTON – Just before 3:00 pm Saturday a report of a collision with injuries on Highway 25 came in to 911 dispatch. According to witnesses on the scene, the driver of one of the vehicles got out and spoke to a bystander and then fled the scene on foot. The witness told police that the man admitted to drinking “four beers” before he fled. Several other beers were inside the vehicle.

A Lincoln Towncar was traveling south on Highway 25 when the Kia Sportage came across from Mt. Zion Road and entered the highway and struck the Lincoln in the front and along the driver’s side of the car, witnesses said. The driver and passenger of the car were immobilized at the scene and then transported to the hospital. They were not believed to be suffering from serious injuries.

A Deputy searched the area for the driver, described as a Hispanic male approximately 30 to 35 years old. It was later learned the man had been released from an arrest on assault charges on Friday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrived on the scene and took over the investigation. The Trooper used his car to push the Kia out of the roadway and into the median. Both cars were towed from the scene within the hour.
