Trenton home burns Saturday evening

web posted July 30, 2007
TRENTON – Just before 6:30 Saturday afternoon a fire was reported at a home on the 100 block of Courtney Road. Trenton firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later and began battling the fire. The County Line Fire Department arrived a few minutes later and joined the fight to save the singlewide mobile home as flames shot out of one end of the home and smoke poured from the other.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the far right side of the home and saved the rest of the structure. The rest of the home suffered heavy smoke and some water damage.

The home did not have electrical power and the meter box had been “red tagged”. A freshly cut orange extension cord was found to be hanging out of the room where the fire is believed to have started. A matching cord rolled up at a house just yards away was observed by fire officials and law enforcement. (pictured below)

A woman at that home became angry that photographs, at the request of Fire Officials, were being taken. "You can't take no pictures here," the woman said, "the fire's over there, not here. That ain't none of your business." All photographs are being turned over to the Trenton Fire Department.

No cause of the fire was given on the scene as firefighters continued to soak hot spots to fully extinguish the fire. No one was in the home when the fire began neighbors said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday evening.
